Joy D. Friedland 1950 ~ 2004 Joy D. Friedland, age 54, passed away as the result of a horseback riding accident on Sunday June 27, 2004 near her summer home in Bigfork, Montana. Joy was born on March 16, 1950 in Ransom, Kansas to John and Elma Smith. Joy spent most of her childhood in Santa Ana, California and graduated from Santa Ana High School. In 1968, Joy married Larry Ray Thompson, their union produced two children, Brett Alan (1971) and Melody Kay (1975). Joy loved and cherished her children every day of her life. The young family's move to Salt Lake City in 1976, was an effort to raise their children in a more healthy environment. After 14 years of marriage, Joy and Larry divorced and Joy was determined to find happiness, and prosperity. Joy met her soul-mate in life and love, Marvin L. Friedland in 1991 and the couple was married in 1996. Their union was transformation for both of them. Together they established homes and friendships in the communities of Bigfork, Montana; Palm Desert, (Ironwood Country Club) California; and Salt Lake City, Utah. Following her love for Marvin, Joy's second love was spending time at her stomping grounds in Bigfork. Her talent for transforming spaces void of life into warm and vibrant homes will always be cherished by those who came to know her. Joy's passion for life was contagious and addictive. She was very energetic and imaginative person who loved exploring new tasks... just to see where it would take her next. Joy is survived by her loving husband Marvin, her son, Brett (wife Traci) grandson, Wyatt daughter Melody, step-son Michael, brother Kim, father John, friends for life Jan Leddy, Lynnette Schissel, Jan and Gordon Bowers. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday July 2, 2004 at the Friedland Residence 870 Bear Creek Road in Bigfork, Montana. Bigfork Funeral Home caring for the family.
