Gillis, Carmen (Loats)

10/17/1950 - 01/23/2011 Carmen Gillis went Home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 23rd at her residence in Mill Valley, CA. She spent her last days with her loving husband Eugene Gillis, her family and a few of her closest friends by her side. Carmen fought a courageous fight against cancer which proved to be an unbeatable foe. After graduating from Chapman University, Carmen began her career as a designer in Newport Beach and later Warren Imports of Laguna Beach. In 1974 she moved to Honolulu where she was Chief Project Designer for Cannell & Chaffin. In 1979 she became a Principal in Paul Kamada and Associates Design agency and completed a degree in Architecture at the University of Hawaii. Carmen was Chief Designer for the Honolulu International Country Club, Waikiki Beach Tower, Trader Vic's Restaurants and several condominium resort complexes and numerous commercial businesses. In 1985 Carmen married Eugene Gillis and moved to San Francisco. She was now Director of Architecture, Design & Tenant Relations with the Shorenstein Realty Services, L.P. During her thirteen years with the Shorenstein Company she directed projects for over 1000 clients in Class "A" high-rise office space. In 1998 Carmen went on her own as Principal in two companies, Summa III and later Carmen Gillis Design where she continued to offer services in interior architecture and design management for private clients. Carmen had a way of making everyone feel special, every occasion elegant and every encounter memorable. She will be profoundly missed. A private funeral service for immediate family will be held at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 5th.
